I have some good news to share.
Starting Wednesday, our stand-alone Business section will return.
Weve made some changes to get the best business stories in, and we know the extra section will make it easier for families to share the paper.
On Tuesdays, when we offer the in-depth Business Insider magazine, our business coverage will remain in the main news section. If you havent opted in to receive Business Insider, please consider doing so. BI editor Dave Staats and his team put out a truly compelling and quality magazine. To opt in, email circulation@idahostatesman.com or call 377-6370. There is no additional charge for five- and seven-day subscribers to receive the magazine.
Starting Thursday, our stand-alone Idaho Outdoors section returns.
Due to large papers in the fourth quarter, we had taken the Outdoors content and put it in our Sports section three days a week. We hoped that was a good compromise as our improving economy was leading to more advertisements and, hence, larger newspapers.
We took a survey, though, and learned that most of you preferred the separate section and preferred getting your outdoors news on Thursday.
We listened and have made the necessary changes to bring it back.
We also asked a lot of questions about what outdoors content was most important to you. Our team editor Roger Phillips and columnist Pete Zimowsky will be making some changes to ensure we stay focused on the content that matters to our readers.
For two weeks, from Monday, Jan. 7, to Sunday, Jan. 20, we will conduct a new comics survey.
This is a second chance for everyone who cares about comics to give us input on which ones we should have in the newspaper.
It is not a scientific poll; it is a self-selected survey of our readers who want a say in which comics we run.
We have been monitoring the reaction to the changes we made to our comics pages based on a survey taken in 2012. Though we had excellent participation in the earlier survey, many of you told us you missed it, or you didnt understand it could lead to changes in the comics lineup.
We really arent comfortable making changes based on the reactions of what is only a fraction of the readers who took the earlier survey, so well just do another survey.
We truly hope all of you who care will participate.
We cant promise that the new survey will bring back your favorite comic, but it will give us a chance to see whether the majority of readers still have the same most favorite comics and the same least favorite comics. Our brand/research manager, Judy Greenley, will take the input, plus the demographics of the participants and our readership, to help us decide what lineup is best.
You can participate online at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/9GQTFTX or come to our lobby at 1200 N. Curtis Road in Boise and request a print form to fill out. Our lobby hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
