The Boise School District has announced the schedule for the selection of a new trustee to replace Rory Jones who resigned from the board in December.
Applications to fill Jones' position will be available beginning Monday, Jan. 7 in the Boise School District Clerk's Office, 8169 W. Victory Rd., Boise and also online at www.boiseschools.org.
Applications must be returned in-person to the Clerk of the Board by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.
Candidates will have the opportunity to make a brief statement and stand for questions from the board at its regular meeting, 6 p.m., Monday, Feb. 11 at the district office.
Board members will consider all applicants and may select a trustee at that time. The new trustee would serve until the next board election to be held in Sept. of 2014, when thetrustee may stand for election to serve the remaining two years of Jones' term.
Qualifications of Trustees (from Section 3 of the district charter):
To be eligible to serve as a Trustee an individual must be at least 18 years of age, an elector and resident of the Boise School District, and have no direct or indirect interest in district contracts. Before entering upon his/her duties, he/she shall take and subscribe an oath faithfully to perform the duties of his/her trust according to law; and no Trustee shall have any pecuniary interest, either directly or indirectly, in any contract with said District, or in any supplies furnished to or for said District, nor shall any Trustee be surety for the performance of any contract with the said Board or District, or the agent or partner of any contractor with said Board or District, and no action shall be maintained or recovery had against said Board or District upon any contract or obligation in which any Trustee is so interested, but the same shall be void.
Jones resigned from the Board last month saying it was time for him to pursue other interests. Jones was first elected to the Board of Trustees in 1986. He served as President of the Board from 2000 to 2008.
