Father Donald J. Riffle, 76, died unexpectedly Thursday while vacationing in Hawaii, the Diocese of Boise announced Friday.

Riffle was named last October as honorary chairman of the diocese's “Building On Our Past, Envisioning Our Future” capital campaign. He had served in a variety of ministries including diocesan vicar general (1981-91) and rector of St. John's Cathedral (1996-98).

Information about arrangements for Father Riffle will be announced later.
