Dirk Koetter, the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator who has been linked to at least three head coaching vacancies, will not pursue any of them, the NFL team announced on Twitter on Wednesday. Koetter is a former Highland High and Idaho State quarterback who was 26-10 at Boise State from 1998 to 2000.
"Dirk Koetter has decided to remain with the Atlanta Falcons, and will not pursue a head coaching position at this time,'' the Falcons tweeted.
The account also said: "Coach Smith: I spoke with Dirk Koetter last night and am very excited he is going to stay with us.''
Koetter has been linked to openings with the Chiefs, Eagles and Browns, according to several media reports. He reportedly interviewed with the Chiefs on Tuesday.
FoxSports.com reported that Koetter has signed an extension with the Falcons through the 2014 season.
The 13-3 Falcons are in the playoffs (they have a bye this week) after one of the most productive offensive seasons in franchise history. This is Koetter's first year with the team, after spending five previous seasons in Jacksonville.
