Published: January 2, 2013

Idaho State Police are asking for public help to figure out how a 4-inch by 4-inch piece of lumber smashed through the windshield of a pickup truck in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 84 by Meridian Wednesday morning.

Police say a pickup was headed eastbound on 1-84 between Ten Mile and Meridian roads around 8 a.m. when a piece of a wooden fencepost smashed through the windshield and seriously injured the driver, a 31-year-old man. Police say the the wood could have come from a car or other vehicle carrying lumber going westbound on I-84 in the same area.

The man was listed in critical condition at Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Police would like to talk to anybody who saw what happened or saw a vehicle losing lumber on I-84 around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Anyone with information should call 846-7500.
