A Caldwell man was found dead after the Union Pacific Railroad reported that he had stepped out in front of a train Tuesday morning, Caldwell police said.

Randall Clay, 58, was struck at about 6:30 a.m. Police said Union Pacific reported that he stepped in front of the train near Kimball Street in downtown Caldwell. Police found Clay's body near Fourth Avenue, four blocks northwest of Kimball. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Caldwell police believe alcohol was a factor. No autopsy is planned.
