Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Mitchell E. Burton and Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class James L. Canning have graduated from the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command in Goose Creek, S.C.

Nuclear Power School is a rigorous six-month course that trains officer and enlisted students in the science and engineering of the design, operation and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants.

Graduates next undergo additional instruction at a prototype training unit before serving as a surface warfare officer aboard a nuclear-powered surface ship or as an electronics technician aboard a nuclear-powered submarine.

Burton is the son of Kevin and Jennifer Burton of Helena, Mont. His wife, Christine, is the daughter of Ronald and Cathy Cornwell of Meridian. He is a 2007 graduate of Centennial High School, Boise.

Canning is the son of Phil Canning and Connie Canning, both of Boise. He is a 2010 graduate of Meridian Technical Charter High School.

Air Force Airmen 1st Class Rondee M. Heberger, Alisha C. Jewett, Clark J. DeWhitt, Guy C. Sundwall, Braden S. Graham, and Air National Guard Airmen 1st Class Britney T. Dines and Ryan D. Thielges graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

The airmen completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

Heberger is the daughter of Ronald Heberger of Caldwell, and Dee Bridgers of Boise. She is a 2009 graduate of Middleton High School.

Jewett is the daughter of Dolores and Larry Jewett Jr. of Mountain Home.

DeWhitt is the son of Victoria Knight of Boise and Kevin DeWhitt of Longview, Wash. He is a 2011 graduate of Kelso High School, in Washington.

Sundwall is the son of Marion Sundwall of Nampa. He is a 2004 graduate of Vallivue High School, Caldwell, and earned an associate degree in 2005 from High Tech Institute, Phoenix, Ariz.

Graham is the son of Larissa Martineau of Nampa. He is a 2012 graduate of Skyview High School, Nampa.

Dines is the daughter of Bronwyn and Kelly Dines of Meridian. She is a 2012 graduate of Mountain View High School, Meridian.

Thielges is the son of Cathleen Leamy and David Thielges, both of Boise. He is a 2011 graduate of Bishop Kelly High School.
