Published: December 31, 2012

MWI Veterinary Supply Inc. in Boise has purchased a northeastern animal health products distributor for $17 million.

MWI bought New York-based PCI Animal Health, which distributes products to more than 2,000 veterinary practices. The company had $33 million in revenues in 2012. MWI had about $2 billion. The company is bringing 15 sales people and an accounts receivable person from PCI of MWI.

Purchase of PCI will help MWI expand its reach into the northeast, said Ryan Cleverley, financial reporting and investor relations manager. The company also distributes the Abaxis brand of animal diagnostic products, which MWI will begin distributing on Wednesday.

“MWI is very pleased to welcome PCI Animal Health to our team," said Jim Cleary, MWI president and CEO. "We are especially excited to continue the relationships with their customers and provide them with the broad product portfolio and value-added services that we offer.”

Robert Zeide, president and CEO of PCI Animal Health, will become a consultant with MWI.

MWI distributes animal health products to veterinarians in the U.S. and United Kingdom.
