Icy conditions lead to 16 car crashes in Ada County

Published: December 26, 2012

Icy road conditions briefly closed the Connector and led to more than a dozen crashes in the Treasure Valley Wednesday evening.

The Ada County Sheriff's Office reported six crashes with injuries and 10 crashes without injuries between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., as well as three hit-and-run crashes and two stuck vehicles.

Slick conditions closed the Connector from 6:45 to 7 p.m. A crash on westbound Interstate 84 briefly blocked the freeway near Vista Avenue about 7:20 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to stay below freezing overnight, making the roads icy during the morning commute.

"Drivers are urged to plan ahead and leave plenty of time to arrive safely at their destination, slow down, keep a safe distance between vehicles and allow plenty of space to stop safely," according to the sheriff's office
