Pooches and pot grow operation found during cruelty probe

Published: December 22, 2012

An anonymous report of neglected animals led Canyon County deputies to 30 malnourished dogs and a marijuana-growing operation in Caldwell late Thursday.

Who’s responsible? Jerry Krebs, 65, owns the property in the 16000 block of Orchard Avenue where the animals were found. Deputies say he could be charged with 30 counts of animal cruelty as well as manufacturing and trafficking in marijuana. He hasn’t been arrested; the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff-elect Kieran Donahue said his office takes cruelty cases “very seriously.” He said options exist for people unable to care for their animals, including giving them away, selling them “or humanely euthanizing them.”
