Marjorie Bergman lost her job at McDonald’s on Monday. One day later, a group of Sunrise Rotarians delivered Christmas gifts for her three children and a $150 WinCo gift card for Bergman and her husband, Richard.

“I think I’m going to cry,” she said.

The Bergmans were among 25 “adopted” families, with a total of 64 children, to whom Rotarians delivered gifts Tuesday morning after their annual holiday breakfast.

Counselors from Whitney, Taft and Jefferson elementary schools have worked with the Rotarians for decades in nominating the families.

Without the Rotarians and their bounty, Bergman said, “the kids would be sad. But we’d make the most of what we had.”

Her son won a Christmas tree in a raffle last week, and now there are presents under it.

“I was worrying about everything,” Bergman said. “Now I have everything I need.”

Rotarians clearly enjoyed their holiday task. “Just call me Santa,” joked Dan Long.

Bergman said she looks forward to Christmas morning.

“The kids’ faces — when they see what’s down there and while they’re opening up the presents ... I’ll be sitting back with my coffee, watching,” she said.
