Two Centennial wrestlers win at Reno tournament

The Centennial High wrestling team finished sixth out of 118 teams at the Reno Tournament of Champions over the weekend at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nev.

Centennial’s Hayden Tuma won the 138-pound championship and was named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler. Teammate Jon Jay Chavez claimed a title at 145.

Other Treasure Valley teams at the tournament included Columbia (14th), Meridian (30th), Mountain View (37th), Eagle (67th), Borah (71st) and Melba (83rd).

Other local wrestlers placing at the tournament were Centennial’s Kris McFarlane (152, fifth), Columbia’s Austin Schaffer (182, fifth), Columbia’s Tim McDonald (195, sixth), Columbia’s Olin Vickers (170, eighth) and Melba’s Jared Johnshoy (145, seventh).
