Meridian Police say icy windshield led to car hitting 14-year-old girl walking to school Tuesday

Meridian police cited a 17-year-old boy Tuesday for having an obstruction to driver’s view or driving mechanism after he hit a 14-year-old girl with his car in the Linder/Ustick roads neighborhood Tuesday morning.

Police say the girl was walking to school around 7:45 a.m. Tuesday and was crossing the street at the intersection of Pebblestone Street and North Glennfield Way when she was hit by the car.

Police say the 17-year-old boy driving the car, who was also on his way to school, did not see the girl because ice on his partially cleared windshield was restricting his view.

Police say the girl appeared to suffer some minor injuries in the crash and that her mother took her to get medical treatment.

Meridian Police Sgt. John Gonzales, a member of the department’s traffic enforcement team, said the case was a good reminder how important it is to remove all ice and frost from car windows before driving in the winter months.

“Someone could have been hurt a lot worse in a situation like this,” Gonzales said.
