Boise State could fall about $100,000 short on its ticket commitment for its MAACO Bowl Las Vegas date with Washington on Dec. 22.
The Mountain West shares in bowl revenue and risk and provides travel money for each participating team.
In Boise States case, part of its budget is $225,000 worth of MAACO Bowl tickets or 4,091.
Thats less than half of the schools allotment of 11,000.
Boise State has distributed about 3,100 tickets, including tickets for the band and players families. About 2,200 of those tickets were purchased $121,000 worth.
That leaves a $104,000 shortfall that Boise State would have to absorb in its budget.
The problem likely isnt a lack of interest but an abundance of options. Last year, Boise State distributed about 5,000 tickets to the MAACO Bowl but had 15,000 fans at the game with most acquiring tickets directly from the bowl or on the secondary market.
In 2010, Boise State sold 7,700 tickets and sent 20,000 fans to the MAACO Bowl.
The last two years, theres been a lot of blue and orange in that stadium, MAACO Bowl Executive Director Dan Hanneke said. We expect the same this year and I know theres going to be a lot of purple and gold (for Washington). When we sit there as the bowl itself and see all those colors, its fantastic.
Tickets cost $62, including fees. The face value is $55.
Boise State fans can help the athletic department meet its obligation by buying a ticket through the ticket office (426-4737) for donation to a Las Vegas-area military member.
Washington has distributed nearly 4,000 tickets.
