SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING

Bring food and get a Tamarack ski pass

Tamarack Ski Resort and the Tamarack Municipal Association are offering skiers a deal to swap a nonperishable meal for a family of four for a one-day lift pass for opening day, Saturday, Dec. 15.

Skiers can bring the food and donate it at Tamarack on opening day or take it to Greenwood Ski Haus in Boise from 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12.

Tamarack is reporting 41 inches at the summit and 6 inches at the base. Skiing likely will be limited mostly to the upper slopes served by the Summit Express lift because of low snow in the base area. Tamarack has been making snow on the beginner area served by the Discovery chairlift, so that area will be available.

Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. After opening day, Tamarack will be open Thursday through Sunday, and daily from Dec. 20 through Jan 6. For details go to tamarackidaho.com.

HUNTING, FISHING

Time to think about getting 2013 licenses

Put this on your calendar: Get your hunting and fishing licenses for next year. Plan ahead so you’re not trying to find a license vendor that’s open before dawn on News Year’s Day. It adds stress to the first day of hunting and fishing for the year. It adds a lot more stress if you forget to get a new license and get busted on the first day of the year. Licenses are available at most sporting goods stores or at offices of Idaho Fish and Game. Look online at fishandgame.idaho.gov.
