Sheriff: Boise woman charged with DUI following head-on collision over four times legal limit

Published: December 11, 2012

Kasey Darlene Knowles is being held in the Ada County Jail on a felony DUI charge after Ada County Sheriff’s deputies say she was drunk when she drove into the path of another car on Five Mile Road late Monday night — so drunk that she registered a .34 blood alcohol content (bac) percentage level after the crash.

The 26-year-old Knowles is charged with a felony aggravated DUI because the driver of the other car suffered a serious leg injury in the crash and had to go to the hospital for treatment, according to reports.

Sheriff’s deputies began their investigation after someone called 911 just before 8:30 p.m. Monday to report a possible drunk driver going north on Five Mile Road, near the Amity Road intersection, in a maroon Saturn passenger car.

About a minute later, deputies say Knowles drove her car into the path of another car going south on Five Mile Road.

Knowles was taken to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center to be checked out following the crash before she was booked into the jail. That’s where she took a breath test and registered the .34 bac. The legal bac limit for driving in Idaho is .08.

A search of Idaho court records shows Knowles has a lengthy record of driving infractions in Ada County, including multiple charges of driving without privileges and inattentive driving.

Knowles will make her initial court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

The crime of felony aggravated DUI is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, with a minimum driving ban of one year. The driving ban can be extended for up to five years, according to Idaho code.
