Police: Boise man charged with 20 counts of grand theft for forging over $4,000 worth of stolen checks

Published: December 7, 2012

John Lam is being held in the Ada County Jail on 20 felony charges each of grand theft and forgery after police say he stole 20 checks from a West Boise home and forged over $4,000 worth of checks over the past year.

Police say the 24-year-old Lam is well known to the victims in the case, who live in the 1000 block of N. Aster Avenue, which is in the Fairview Avenue/5 Mile Road neighborhood.

The victims contacted Boise Police about the missing checks and money on Wednesday, and officers were able to collect enough evidence to charge Lam with grand theft and forgery by Thursday afternoon.

Lam will make his initial court appearance Friday afternoon.

The crimes of grand theft and forgery are both punishable by up to 14 years in prison for each charge.
