Former Idaho golfer earns LPGA Tour card

Published: December 3, 2012

Kayla Mortellaro finished tied for 11th at the LPGA qualifying tournament, and was one of 20 golfers who earned full status on the tour Sunday.

Mortellaro’s 356 was nine shots off the leading score shot by Rebecca Lee-Bentham and Moriya Jutanugarn.

With a shoulder injury before the tournament, Mortellaro opened with a 7-over 79 and sat in 112th place. With rounds of 69, 69, 72 and 67, she steadily climbed her way into the top 20.

Mortellaro, a Phoenix native, won the women’s WAC tournament title the past two years and is the first Vandal to earn an LPGA Tour card, according to school officials.
