Mudslide blocked US 95 for hours Sunday, but both lanes now open

Published: December 2, 2012

U.S. 95 was closed at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday due to a mudslide and rocks on the highway at milepost 177, about 14 miles south of Riggins. Travelers were urged to divert to Oregon until the highway could be cleared.

By 4 p.m., both lanes of the highway were open. The mud slide was considerable but no one was hurt, a dispatcher said.

Motorists traveling through Boise County should be aware that mud and small rocks are tumbling onto roadways throughout the county. No slide-offs or other crashes have occurred as a result, a dispatcher said. Elmore County also reported no major issues.
