Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State women’s hoops ends skid with win over UMKC

Boise State defeated Missouri-Kansas City 71-64 on Saturday at the Air Force Classic in Colorado Springs, Colo., snapping a three-game losing streak. Four Broncos reached double figures, led by freshman center Miquelle Askew, who scored a team-high 14 points. Amber Vandiver recorded her first career double-double with career highs in points (12) and rebounds (16). Lauren Lenhardt also chipped in 11 points, while Brandi Henton scored 10 for the Broncos (4-3). Askew and Lenhardt were named to the all-tournament team.

BSU TRACK & FIELD: The Broncos won a total of nine events at the Jacksons Open and Multis in Nampa, picking up six wins Saturday. On the men’s side, BSU won the 400 meters (Jordin Andrade), 4x400 (Jordin Andrade, Karrie Butler, Manoah Wesson and Rolando Trammel), 60 hurdles (Justin Malnes) and weight throw (Will Lohman). The women claimed titles in the weight throw (Kady Stafford) and triple jump (Debra Johnson).

BSU WRESTLING: Jason Chamberlain won the 149-pound title at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, leading the Broncos to a sixth-place team finish. Chamberlain won five bouts on his way to the crown, defeating three ranked opponents. J.T. Felix took third at 285 pounds.

BSU SWIMMING: Junior Rachel Heaney won the 200-yard butterfly in a school-record time of 1:58.50 on the final day of the Missouri Invitational in Columbia, Mo. Freshman Devin Madsen also set a school record in the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.78) as the Broncos finished second in the team standings.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: All five starters scored in double figures as the Coyotes rolled past Concordia 86-57 in Caldwell. Felicity Jones led the attack with 17 points for the C of I (6-3, 2-0 CCC). Bishop Kelly grad Randi McReynolds scored 12 points for Concordia.

C OF I MEN’S BASKETBALL: Taylor Pruett scored 22 points to lead the Coyotes in a 78-67 win over Concordia in Caldwell. It was the first conference win of the season for the C of I (4-6, 1-1).

C OF I SWIMMING: The women split a pair of dual meets in McMinnville, Ore., beating Mills 77-26 and falling to Linfield 64-38. The men lost to Linfield 143-49.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Kenny Jones dunked in the final seconds of overtime to send the Crusaders past Saint Martin’s 66-65 in Lacey, Wash. Jones led NNU (4-3, 1-1 GNAC) with 23 points.

NNU WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Montana State Billings defeated the Crusaders 69-68 in Billings. Megan Hingston had 26 points to lead NNU (5-2, 0-2 GNAC).

IDAHO STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Lindsey Reed scored 16 points, but the Bengals (3-3) suffered a 61-50 loss at No. 21 Nebraska.
