Second-grade art prodigy: Benicio Avila from Orchards Elementary in Lewiston won the 2012 contest with his scene of birch trees on a winter night. The work will grace the Idaho Department of Educations holiday greeting card. His artwork is unique, and he has already developed his own style, said Joy Rapp, Lewiston School District superintendent.
More inspiration: State Superintendent Tom Luna selected winners in elementary grades: kindergarten: Calvin Whitecotton, Whitepine; 1st grade: Hanna Shepard, Lewiston; 2nd: Benicio; 3rd: Carman Stricklin, Whitepine; 4th: Renae McGarry, Lewiston; 5th: Savannah Robinson, Coeur dAlene; 6th: Daphne Buckland, Genesee.
