The Coyotes beat Westmont College 25-22, 25-16, 15-25, 25-17 in their first match of pool play at the championships in Sioux City, Iowa. The Coyotes (23-6) dominated Westmont at the net, racking up a 16-1 edge in total blocks. It was the Coyotes seventh consecutive win. C of I has won its opening match at nationals four straight times. The Coyotes will face No. 2 Texas-Brownsville, the defending NAIA champion, Wednesday at noon. Texas-Brownville defeated St. Francis (Ill.) in its opening match.
BOISE STATE VOLLEYBALL: Senior right side/outside hitter Liz Harden of Lake Forest, Calif., made the All-Mountain West team, based on a vote of the leagues nine coaches. Colorado State senior Dana Cranston is the Player of the Year, UNLVs Kinsey Caldwell is the Freshman of the Year, San Diego States Michelle Waber is the Newcomer of the Year and Deitre Collins-Parker of San Diego State is the Coach of the Year.
IDAHO WOMENS BASKETBALL: The Vandals used a steal and a buzzer-beating lay-up to defeat Eastern Washington 68-66 late Tuesday night in Moscow. Alyssa Charlston, who led the Vandals (1-4) with 29 points, hit the game-winning shot.
