Jason R. Wilson and Robert W. Young are being held in the Ada County Jail on felony burglary charges after Boise police say they stole several 12 packs of beer — including Coors Light, Rolling Rock and Pabst Blue Ribbon — from a convenience store on Main Street Monday night.

A clerk at a convenience store in the 2300 block of West Main Street called 911 at 6:30 p.m. to say that a man just took several 6- and 12-packs of beer and left without paying when the same man walked back in and took two more 24-packs of beer and took off again, according to reports. The clerk also said another man walked into the store with the beer thief but stayed in the store until the second heist.

When police arrived moments later, the men were gone but witnesses were able to give officers a good description, officials said.

A short time later Boise police got a complaint from workers at a nearby motel about two men who were intoxicated. Officers arrived to find two men matching the descriptions of the beer thieves drinking Rolling Rock beer at the motel but did not arrest them at that point because they were not yet sure they were the same men, according to reports.

By the time police identified the 38-year-old Wilson and 46-year-old Young as suspects, they left the motel. Police found the men a short time later at a local homeless shelter near Downtown. By that time, police say they had the evidence to arrest both men in connection with the beer theft.

Police say they have evidence both men went into the store with the intent to steal, which is why they are charged with felony burglary — a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, according to Idaho Code.

A preliminary hearing for both men will be set for early next month.
