BI Editor David Staats: 2 columns move to BI from paper

Published: November 27, 2012

Welcome to our first edition published on a Tuesday. Editor Vicki Gowler wrote about this and some changes coming to the Statesman’s daily business section in the Insight section Sunday, Nov. 25. Here are more details about two columns moving to Business Insider.

One is Ed Lotterman’s economics column. He returns to BI in this edition. Lotterman is in Minnesota, but he has a strong following among Statesman readers. He writes twice a week most weeks, so we will keep running supplemental columns at IdahoStatesman.com/Lotterman.

The second is Marie McIntyre’s Work Coach column, which ran Wednesdays. This smart Q&A column is of general interest, like Lotterman’s, but is also a good fit for BI’s business-minded readership. Watch for it next week.

This week’s cover story is the first we have run that was not written specifically for Business Insider. Scott Maben of The Spokesman-Review in Spokane explored the aerospace sector in North Idaho and eastern Washington. We focus most of our journalistic attention closer to home. But this growing sector is so important to Idaho’s economy that I hope you’ll agree the story is worth your attention and the cover position.

Our circulation department says BI’s print distribution now tops 10,000 copies a week. That’s more than I ever expected. Thank you.
