Idaho will end its football season without a coach, a conference and, barring a shocking upset at No. 25 Utah State on Saturday, much reason for excitement around the program.
The Aggies, however, have locked up a share of the WAC title, a second consecutive bowl berth, an invitation to the Mountain West and coach Gary Andersen to a contract extension.
Utah State is 9-2 (5-0 WAC).
We couldnt ask for much more out of our season, but we still have goals in front of us, Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton said of winning the WAC title outright, then a bowl game, most likely the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Dec. 15 in Boise.
Idaho (1-10, 1-4) is just looking for a spark as it enters an uncertain offseason. The Vandals are searching for a coach to replace fired Robb Akey. Interim coach Jason Gesser is a candidate for the job.
Going out with a win would be real nice. We could carry a little momentum into the offseason with the guys we have coming back, Idaho sophomore Mike Marboe said. We want to go out with a good ending to the season.
Junior quarterback Taylor Davis will make his first start, becoming the Vandals third starter of the season. Davis has played behind Logan Bushnell in each of the past three games since starting quarterback Dominique Blackman was dismissed from the team.
He wants to go out there and show that he can be a Division I starting quarterback, said Gesser, the teams quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. Little things he struggled with three weeks ago are a lot easier for him now. Its been nice to see his development and his mentality over the last three weeks.
