Idaho colleges roundup: Idaho volleyball team second at WAC Championships

New Mexico State beat the Vandals 25-20, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19 in the conference championship match Wednesday in San Antonio. The match featured 37 ties and 17 lead-changes in the four sets. It was the first title game appearance for the Vandals (17-14), who were led by Allison (Walker) Baker’s 28 kills, 12 digs and two blocks. Baker, Janelle Chow and Taylor Wilkinson earned all-tournament team honors.

IDAHO MEN’S BASKETBALL: The Vandals signed forward Ayodele Ojo of Jonesboro, Ark. (State Fair, Mo., CC), and guard Perrion Callandret of Bothell, Wash. (Bothell High) for the 2013-14 season.

IDAHO STATE MEN’S BASKETBALL: Melvin Morgan scored a game-high 15 points, and the Bengals led by nine at one point in the second half before losing to Utah 57-46 in Salt Lake City. The Bengals (0-3) shot just 30.6 percent, including 5-of-26 in the second half, and were outscored 35-17 over the final 20 minutes.
