Idaho State Police: 61-year-old Eagle man and dog die after SUV crash in Payette River

Published: November 20, 2012

Idaho State Police are still trying to figure out what caused a 61-year-old Eagle man to lose control of his 1997 Toyota 4 Runner on Idaho 55 and crash it into the Payette River Monday night.

When police got to the crash, they found the SUV on the roof and in the river. Driver Steve Lenon and a dog inside were dead, according to ISP reports.

Police say Lenon was driving the SUV north on Idaho 55, just north of Porter Creek, when the SUV went off the right shoulder of the road. When Lenon tried to pull it back on the road he lost control going the other way. The SUV went off the left side of the road and down the embankment before it rolled over into the river, according to ISP reports.

It’s unclear if anyone saw what happened. Police found the SUV just after 7 p.m.

Lenon was wearing his seatbelt, according to ISP reports.
