STATESMAN COVERAGE

Where are theNBA box scores?

I used to think the Statesman’s Sports section was lame for using high school style box scores for NBA games, but nowadays that seems like the good old days.

This season, there are no box scores at all. Congratulations, you’ve reached your pinnacle, or nadir, actually; you are without a doubt the most pathetic sports section in the country.

Why not get rid of that ridiculous “Scene and Heard” section and put some real sports news in there? Thank goodness for the Internet so we can find out what’s really happening in the sports world.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL

Notre Dame love doesn’t make sense

One only has to look at the computer rankings that list Notre Dame at No. 1 to see just how bad the computer results are. Consider that Notre Dame narrowly escaped defeats at the last minute to unranked BYU and Pittsburgh (three overtimes), and has Boston College and Wake Forest on its schedule.

Yet the Notre Dame coach voted his team No. 1?

Next we have Florida, which in the last seconds averted a loss to lowly Louisiana-Lafayette, yet is No. 3 by the computers?

Oregon, in spite of the most potent offense in the nation, in a league with five teams in the Top 25, is No. 1 in the polls, but only fourth by the computers, robbing them of No. 1 in the BCS?

Apparently the computers pay no attention to margin of victories. Clearly, the computer programs favor the SEC and Notre Dame over the Pac-12 and others. These computer programs are no more infallible than the bias programmed into them. Drop them.

In spite of a resounding victory over Hawaii, Mike Prater ranked BSU even lower than Northern Illinois and Kent State in Harris Poll?
