Crash near Wendell injures driver, passenger, kills horses

Carey Jenks, 57, of Gooding, was driving a Ford Taurus north on State Highway 46 near Wendell on Friday evening when he collided with several horses in the road.

Crews took Jenks to North Canyon Medical Center in Gooding. They took a 15-year-old riding in the car to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise by air ambulance.

Two of the horses had to be put down at the scene because of their injuries. The owner of the horses was notified. Alcohol is not a factor. No charges have been filed at this time. Jenks and his passenger were both wearing seat belts.

Idaho State Police continue to investigate the crash.
