IDOC officials investigate hanging death of 55-year-old inmate as a suicide

Published: November 14, 2012

Idaho Department of Correction officials said Wednesday it appears a 55-year-old inmate committed suicide in his cell at the state’s medium security prison Tuesday afternoon.

Prison staff found Calvin Lewis Dwight hanging from the inside of his cell at 3:34 p.m. Wednesday, according to IDOC reports.

Prison staffers and paramedics tried to revive Dwight but were not able to do so. Dwight was pronounced dead at 4:06 p.m.

The 55-year-old Dwight, whose last listed address was in Nampa, was serving a seven-year sentence for possession of a controlled substance after being convicted in March 2011. Dwight would have been eligible to ask for parole after serving 3.5 years of that sentence, according to IDOC records.

Ada County Sheriff’s detectives are working with IDOC officials to investigate Dwight’s death.
