Cupboards nearly bare in pantry that provides food for pets of Boise-area home-bound seniors; donations of cat food needed

Published: November 13, 2012

Volunteers with the Idaho Humane Society deliver pet food for the animals of home-bound seniors — but a shortage of food may delay the packaging of November's deliveries.

The pantry needs at least 60 16-pound bags of cat food and 30 8-pound bags of cat food to be able to fulfill this month's pet food need. Donations can be dropped off at the shelter, 4775 Dorman St. in Boise, or at the IHS PetSmart Adoption Center at 130 N Milwaukee St. in Boise.

More than 200 companion pets are served by the program. Donations of pet food are stored in a pantry at the Idaho Humane Society.

Supporters of the Pantry interested in making a monetary donation to support the purchase of pet food can do so at www.idahohumanesociety.org and follow the donate tab. Please specify "Pet Food Pantry" for donation type.

Last year, the Pet Food Pantry aided more than 260 pets of home-bound seniors through the delivery of more than 38,000 pounds of pet food.
