A 21-year-old Garden City woman hospitalized Sunday after rolling over an SUV she was driving on Interstate 84 has been charged with a DUI, Idaho State Police officials said Monday.
Police say Yoana Saldana-Valdez was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound on I-84, just east of Boise, when she lost control of the SUV just after 10:15 a.m. Sunday. The Trailblazer went off the side of the road and rolled over, coming to rest on the side in the median, according to ISP reports.
Paramedics took Saldana-Valdez by ground ambulance to St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise.
One eastbound lane of the interstate was blocked for about three hours.
ISP officials say a blood sample was taken from Saldana-Valdez at the hospital for later evidence testing. Police detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from Saldana-Valdez and say she admitted to drinking the night before, which was part of the evidence used to charge her with drunken driving, officials said.
Officers cited Saldana-Valdez for a misdemeanor DUI at the hospital. A court hearing will be set for later this month.
