BYU smashes punchless Idaho

PROVO, Utah — Cody Hoffman caught three first-half touchdown passes and freshman running back Jamaal Williams rushed for 104 yards and two touchdowns, all in the first half, to lead BYU to a 52-13 rout of Idaho on Saturday night.

BYU (6-4) put 28 points on the board in the first quarter and scored on five of its first six possessions en route to a 42-7 halftime lead.

Hoffman finished with nine catches for 108 yards. Riley Nelson was 19-of-31 passing for 236 yards and three touchdowns for BYU before departing early in the second half.

Idaho (1-9) entered the game allowing 42 points and almost 500 yards per game. BYU had 367 yards at the half and finished with 539.

Mike Scott's 33-yard touchdown catch and two field goals by Trey Farquhar, one on the final play of the game, accounted for Idaho's only points.

Idaho quarterback Logan Bushnell completed 19-of-35 passes for 206 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Taylor Davis hit 1-of-2 passes for 6 yards.

After the game, BYU accepted an invitation to play in the Poinsettia Bowl on Dec. 20 in San Diego.
