Police: 29-year-old Boise man charged with felony burglary for stealing two cases of beer

Published: November 7, 2012

Steven Gomez is charged with felony burglary after Boise police say he stole two 30 packs of Budweiser from a Bench area convenience store Tuesday night — and was caught drinking them in a nearby garage a short time later.

Boise police were sent to a retail store in the 10000 block West Overland Road just after 7 p.m. Tuesday after an employee said a man, later identified as Gomez, walked into the store, grabbed two 30-pack cases of Budweiser, and ran out the door without paying.

Witnesses were able to help police identify Gomez as the suspect and found him a short time later at a home in the 300 block of White Cloud Drive, which is about three miles away, in the Cole/Franklin roads neighborhood. Police say they caught Steven Gomez and 34-year-old Eugene Gomez drinking the beer inside a garage at the home.

Police arrested Steven Gomez on a felony burglary charge and Eugene Gomez on an arrest warrant out of Nevada. Both were then booked into the Ada County Jail.

The case is charged as a felony burglary because police say they have evidence Gomez went into the store with the intent to commit a crime.

A preliminary hearing for Steven Gomez will be set for later this month. The crime of felony burglary is punishable by up to 10 years in jail.
