Senior quarterback Logan Bushnell will start for Idaho against BYU on Saturday, interim coach Jason Gesser said Monday.
Bushnell completed 14-of-29 passes for 196 yards in the Vandals loss to San Jose State. He threw one touchdown and one interception that was returned for a touchdown by the Spartans. Bushnell was sacked five times.
Starting quarterback Dominique Blackman was dismissed from the team during the Vandals bye week.
Im very proud of the way Logan played. He just needs more reps. He needs more game-time reps, said Gesser, the teams offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Thats what I think it came down to on about six or seven plays. If he gets the ball out and sees things a split-second sooner, we score. He knows it. He understands it.
Junior Taylor Davis played against the Spartans, as Gesser promised. Davis was 3-of-8 for 11 yards.
Gesser said Davis would again see playing time in the first half against BYU. But unlike last week when the two quarterbacks evenly split first-team practice reps, Bushnell will get the majority of the reps this week, Gesser said.
Idaho and BYU kick off at 8:15 p.m. Mountain on ESPNU.
