Idaho colleges roundup: College of Idaho volleyball clinches conference title

The Coyotes finished the regular season with a 25-16, 25-16, 25-17 win over Oregon Tech in Caldwell. Torrey Hulsey had a match-high 10 kills as the Coyotes clinched the Cascade Conference championship. It was the 71st straight conference win at home for the C of I (19-6, 16-2 CCC), which will host the semifinals and championship match. The quarterfinals will be played this week, and the Coyotes will play the lowest remaining seed Friday.

BOISE STATE VOLLEYBALL: The Broncos defeated New Mexico 25-11, 25-18, 25-15 at Bronco Gym. Taylor Murphy led BSU (13-12, 5-5 MW) with nine kills, and Liz Harden contributed eight to move into eighth place on the school’s career kills list.

BSU WRESTLING: Jason Chamberlain won a 6-3 decision over Oklahoma’s Nick Lester in a 149-pound bout at the NWCA All-Star Classic on Saturday in Washington, D.C. Chamberlain was the only Boise State wrestler at the event. Later Saturday, redshirt junior Jake Swartz finished in first place at 184 pounds at the Cowboy Open in Laramie, Wyo. Swartz was one of three Broncos to finish in the top three of their weight class. J.T. Felix lost in the heavyweight finals.

BSU SWIMMING AND DIVING: The Broncos (2-0) won 10 events as they defeated Oregon State 177-85 in Corvallis.

IDAHO VOLLEYBALL: The Vandals defeated Seattle University 25-16, 25-17, 12-25, 25-19 in Moscow. Allison Baker had 19 kills for Idaho (12-13).

COLLEGE OF IDAHO CROSS COUNTRY: Led by individual champion Hillary Holt, the women’s team won the Cascade Conference championship in Portland. On the men’s side, the Coyotes’ Greg Montgomery was the individual champion and the team finished second behind Southern Oregon. Holt and Montgomery were named the conference’s athletes of the year.

C OF I WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Katelin Shannon broke a tie with a layup with 19 seconds remaining and sealed the win with a steal and two free throws as the C of I opened its season with a 68-64 win over Montana Tech in Caldwell. Chakala Carthen had 20 points and 10 rebounds in her C of I debut.

C OF I MEN’S SOCCER: Drew Smith scored the lone goal as the Coyotes (4-10, 4-8-2 CCC) defeated Oregon Tech 1-0 in Caldwell.

NORTHWEST NAZARENE VOLLEYBALL: Central Washington defeated the Crusaders 25-18, 25-20, 25-18 in Ellensburg, Wash.
