Reader's View, candidate rebuttal: Brad Bolicek brings a strong business background

Published: November 3, 2012

The Statesman endorsement for District 18 House Seat B only included two sentences for my race. I am submitting more information so that voters in my district can be informed on their decision during Election 2012. I am Brad Bolicek running against incumbent Phylis King. She and I have very different perspectives and capabilities to bring to the Legislature. I bring extensive experience and knowledge of business operation and how to create jobs and grow the economy. I will represent District 18 with effective, relevant and experienced leadership.

“Brad Bolicek knows how to stimulate economic development. His corporate background and his success as an entrepreneur uniquely prepare him for the challenges we face today. Brad knows that a low tax burden and eliminating unnecessary government regulations are critical for economic growth,” says Sen. Russ Fulcher, Idaho Senate Majority Caucus Chair.

I believe that the private sector, those who open and build businesses are best to create jobs and grow the economy. From 1995 to 2005 I owned and operated Bolo’s Pub & Eatery in Meridian. During that time my business experienced double-digit percentage growth in sales in nearly all years. My restaurant provided tax revenue to the federal government, state, county and city and I employed approximately 22 employees at any given time. In taxes paid (sales, property, personal property and payroll tax), Bolo’s contributed approximately $600,000 to the economy during the 10 years we were in business (excluding employee share and business income tax). I successfully sold Bolo’s Pub & Eatery at the top of the market in 2005. I am very proud that five of the employees I coached opened three restaurants in the Treasure Valley. Two employees opened Kahootz and another employee opened Rudy’s, both in Meridian. Two other employees opened a restaurant in Nampa. Meridian Mayor Tammy de Weerd was a strong supporter of Bolo’s prior to and after she was elected mayor. Bolo’s was recognized for its job creation, tax revenue contribution and charitable efforts for the community and how important it was to have a successful growing business at the beginning of Meridian’s economic revitalization.

My District 18 supporters know I have the ability to work with other legislators on a common goal for Idaho. Please research my background and views: www.bradforhouse18.com.

I humbly ask for your vote on Nov. 6.

Brad R. Bolicek, a Boise Republican, is running for House Seat B in legislative District 18.
