Boise State football tee-dog team has new blood

Published: November 2, 2012

Tee-dog tradition:

A black Lab named Kicks retrieved the tee used for kickoffs on the blue turf in the 1990s. The tradition was revived in 2010, and Zamzows sponsors the tee-dog team.

Which pooches made the team this year?

The freshmen: Rox Zee, a female black Lab; Drake (aka Big Zee), a male chocolate Lab; and Mini Zee, a female blue heeler. The sophomore: Zee, a male Pudelpointer. The new coach: Willie Alderson (he’s a PE teacher and football coach at Boise’s West Junior High).

No fumbles so far:

Both Rox Zee and Drake are perfect in retrieving the tees during four home games this season. Zee is perfect in practice; Mini Zee is enthusiastically learning the playbook.

Injury report:

On the field, Drake suffered a foot injury — possibly a sprain and some rug burn. Zee has been benched to give the others playing time.

What’s a Zee Kid?

Each week, Zamzows chooses one child (6 to 12) to retrieve the tee once during the game. The parents receive four tickets to the game. Entries come from the coloring contest; forms are available in stores.
