Idaho Historical Museum to mark Dia de los Muertos

Published: November 2, 2012

"The Day of the Dead is supposed to be a happy celebration," says Veronika Cabrera. "It's not just death and sorrow." The official day, called Dia de los Muertos, is Nov. 2, which will be celebrated with mass. But parishioners at St. John's Cathedral had a community dinner and carnival on Sunday, the weekend closest to the special day

Celebrate the Day of the Dead, the traditional Latin American holiday that honors those who have died. The centerpiece of the event is an exhibit of traditional and contemporary altars created by area artists and children. There will be hand-on activities for kids, food, music and a costumed Calavera Parade to Downtown’s Freak Alley at 8 p.m., so come dressed for the event.
