ZONING
Boise prepares to revamp Planning Department codes
THE AGENCY City of Boise.
THE ISSUE Boises planning ordinances on zoning, subdivision and historical preservation have become reader unfriendly over the years, city planners say. They are loaded with jargon and difficult to navigate.
WHATS PROPOSED City planners say they cleaned ordinances of much of the difficult-to-understand language. They put everything in one place. You do dont have to figure out if you need the zoning ordinances or the historic preservation rules, which have been in separate sections, before you begin your search. The proposed guide also has flow charts for processes, such as seeking nonconforming use permits or rezonings. The revamped presentation doesnt change any rules or regulations, though city officials expect to consider those later.
HOW YOU CAN BE HEARD The Planning Commission plans a public hearing on the draft of the reorganized ordinances at 6 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5 at the Capitol.

You could get a ticket but no driving points

THE ISSUE Getting cited for texting while driving
WHATS PROPOSED A texting-while-driving ticket in Idaho can cost you $85. But it wont cost points on your driving record under a rule proposed by the Idaho Department of Transportation. The rule specifically mentions texting. Failure to exempt it could mean people texting while driving for business or personal reasons could end up having three points on their driving records.
