Idaho colleges roundup: Boise State women 3rd, men 4th at MW cross country finals

Marisa VanderMalle and Tessa Murray — by placing third and sixth, respectively — earned All-Mountain West first-team honors for the women at the league’s championship event Friday in Las Vegas. Barak Watson finished second in the men’s race to pace Boise State and also earn All-MW first-team honors. New Mexico swept the men’s and women’s team titles.

IDAHO WOMEN’S SOCCER: The Vandals (5-13-1, 2-4-1 WAC) took an early 1-0 lead on a goal by Katie Baran, but fell to Denver 5-1 in Moscow.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO MEN’S BASKETBALL: Montana Western spoiled the Coyotes’ season opener with a 72-52 win in Dillon, Mont. Sydney Donaldson led the C of I with 10 points.

C OF I WOMEN’S SOCCER: The Coyotes (5-1-1, 4-4 Cascade Conference) gave up a goal in the 97th minute of a 1-0 loss to Southern Oregon in Caldwell.

C OF I VOLLEYBALL: Concordia ended a 21-match losing streak against the Coyotes with a 25-17, 19-25, 25-17, 25-15 win in Portland. Jessica Peacock had 13 kills for the C of I (16-6, 14-2 CCC).
