Is this earlier than normal? It’s within the normal range. Mid-October is typically the time of year Bogus gets its first snowfall, National Weather Service meteorologist Stephen Parker said.

Does this mean we should start waxing our skis? Not a bad idea, though this snow might not stick around long. Heading into the weekend, Parker said, the weather should get a little warmer.

Will this batch of snow help skiers at all? Actually, yes. Even if it does melt, it should saturate the ground at Bogus, setting up a better base for the next snowfall, the ski area’s general manager said.

How far down will the snow come this week? Parker said elevations above 4,000 feet are likely to see some accumulation. Snow might even fall on the floor of the Treasure Valley on Thursday morning, when temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s.

What’s the long-term winter forecast? Parker said that from December to February, he expects warmer-than-normal temperatures and less snow than we usually get.
