Boise police seize four pounds of pot during traffic stop

Chelsea N. Keena and Tyler P. Kennedy are being held in the Ada County Jail on felony marijuana trafficking charges after Boise police say officers found more than four pounds of pot in the trunk of their car Wednesday night.

A Boise police officer pulled over the car Keena and Kennedy were in around 8 p.m. Wednesday near the Broadway Avenue/Chamberlin Street intersection because the car only had one working headlight. It was during that stop that police determined the 28-year-old Keena had an active arrest warrant for failure to appear. While police reports do not say who was driving, Keena has a lengthy history of driving infractions and not showing up for court, according to Idaho court records.

That’s also when officers called for a K-9 dog, which detected the presence of drugs in the car, according to reports.

Police then found 2,038 grams of marijuana in the trunk (there are 448 grams in a pound of marijuana). The pot was all together in one container. Police charged the pair, both 28, with trafficking because of the large amount of marijuana found inside.

Keena and Kennedy, both 28, will make their initial court appearance Thursday afternoon.

The crime of trafficking in marijuana is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, with a one-year minimum sentence for someone found guilty of possessing between one to five pounds of pot, according to Idaho code.
