Bronco Inn? Boise State University eyes on-campus hotel

Published: October 18, 2012

What’s the big idea? Boise State University plans to ask developers for proposals on a private hotel.

What’s wrong with hotels near campus? Even those within walking distance can’t “provide the convenience and unique experience of staying on campus, nor a formal association with the University,” according to a proposal the school will pitch to the Idaho State Board of Education.

What “formal association” with BSU would the new hotel have? The university would provide property to the developer on a “market-based ground lease.”

How much would this cost BSU? As plans stand now, nothing. “The University will not guarantee the debt, participate in any manner in the financing/funding of this project nor guarantee occupancy levels of the campus hotel,” according to the school. The point of the endeavor is, in part, to make money for BSU.

When could this happen? Plans are preliminary, with no time frame for bidding or construction at this point.
