A 22-year-old Payette man faces at least 35 years in prison after a federal jury convicted him Tuesday of firebombing government property.

Donovan James Bolen set the fires to distract law enforcement so he could steal firearms from the World's Largest Pawn Shop in Fruitland, officials say.

Bolen and David Joseph Von Bargen, 50 of Fruitland, used Molotov cocktails t to destroy a U.S. Department of Agriculture pickup and a four-wheel ATV, as well as a building belonging to Western Core Co. in Payette, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Jurors deliberated about five hours before convicting Bolen of carrying and using firearms – Molotov cocktails – during and in relation to a federal crime of violence, conspiracy to maliciously use explosive materials, conspiracy to maliciously damage federal property, and theft of firearms. Trial began with opening statements last Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Boise.

Bolen was taken into custody to await sentencing, which is scheduled for Jan. 23.

A trial date for Von Bargen has not yet been scheduled.
