A Nampa woman pleaded guilty Friday to murdering her mother with a hammer.
Kelly Singh, 40, faces up to life in prison when she's sentenced Jan. 4 in 3rd District Court for first-degree murder.
Singh had been scheduled to begin trial Oct. 29 for the Feb. 28 beating death of Ruth Ann Collins, 69.
Singh told police she'd been drinking large glasses of wine that day and that her mother had confronted her about her drinking, so she attacked her with a hammer as she slept in her bed, according to Nampa police. She then went to a neighbor's home and said she thought she'd killed her mother, police say. The neighbor called police.
Singh is to undergo mental health and substance abuse evaluations before sentencing. She remains in custody at the Canyon County Jail.
