The city of Meridian will host a town hall meeting on Wednesday focused on teen prescription drug abuse.
The meeting takes place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Wahooz Family Fun Zone Conference Center at 1385 S. Blue Marlin Lane in Meridian.
Mayor Tammy de Weerd, Idaho Drug Policy Chief Elisha Figueroa and Meridian Police Chief Jeff Lavey will lead the discussion.
At the start of each school year, I sit down with leaders in our schools to take the pulse of what is happening with our youth, said de Weerd. Consistently, the abuse of prescription drugs by students was cited as one of their primary concerns a threat that exists in our own homes, right in our own medicine cabinets.
Parents, teens, educators, faith leaders and other members of the community are encouraged to attend and can participate using SlideKlowd a service that creates a connection between the presenters and the audience on mobile devices to make comments, ask questions, and follow the presentation. The Meridian Mayor's Anti-Drug Coalition and DrugFree Idaho will also be on hand to offer reference materials and have educational displays at the event.
Admission to the meeting is free, but anyone wishing to take advantage of Wahooz's attractions, video arcade, or bowling can purchase a special $10.99 package being offered from 6 to 9 p.m. that evening which includes laser tag, the roller coaster simulator, mini-golf, and $2.50 arcade game card. Go-Karts can be added for $4 more; and a game of bowling with shoe rentals added for $5 more.
