MOSCOW — Idaho senior Kyle Barone has been suspended indefinitely after a violation of team rules, coach Don Verlin said Monday. “My job is to educate student-athletes and to teach them how to conduct themselves on and off the court,” Verlin said. “We have challenged Kyle to become a first-class student and resident of Moscow. How he responds will determine his status on our basketball team.” Barone is a three-year letterwinner and enters the season as the team’s active leader in points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals. He was a 2012 second-team All-WAC honoree and a 2011 honorable mention All-WAC selection. Idaho holds its first practice Friday, and Verlin said Barone’s status will be re-evaluated as the season progresses.

WAC ADDITIONS: Utah Valley and Cal State Bakersfield are set to join the league as non-football members, according to multiple reports. The WAC has scheduled a press conference for Tuesday morning. The league has four continuing members (Idaho, New Mexico State, Denver and Seattle) for 2013-14.

BOISE STATE, IDAHO WOMEN’S GOLF: Idaho leads after the first day of the Price’s “Give ’Em Five” Invitational in Las Cruces, N.M., while Boise State is tied for seventh. The Vandals were paced Monday by Leilanie Kim (1-under 71), and freshman Samantha Martin (even-par 72) leads Boise State. Yupaporn Kawinpakorn of Kansas (69) leads the tournament by three strokes entering Tuesday’s second round.
