A fire sparked by a vehicle dragging an unknown object in the westbound lanes of I-84 burned about 1,000 acres Monday, according to a Bureau of Land Management dispatcher.

The fire was reported about 2 p.m. at milepost 86, about four miles from the west Mountain Home exit.

Firefighters dropped retardant from two fixed-wing planes, water from two helicopters and deployed eight engines and two bulldozers.

The BLM dispatcher said the fire was being mopped up about 8 p.m. and was expected to be controlled Tuesday morning.
