Ryan Zapolski turned aside 36-of-37 shots and three players scored as Idaho defeated the Utah Grizzlies 3-1 on Saturday night at CenturyLink Arena.

Idaho jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period as Ron Meyers and Corey Tamblyn notched goals.

Zapolski stole the show in the second frame, as he stopped two partial breakaways and made 16 saves. Utah got on the board in the third period, but Idaho’s Mike Towns sealed the victory with an empty-net goal with 36 seconds remaining in the contest.

The same two teams will open the regular season Friday at CenturyLink Arena.

• The Texas Stars, Idaho’s AHL affiliate, announced Saturday that they have reassigned rookie goaltender Josh Robinson to the Steelheads. Robinson went 15-14-4 in his senior year at Michigan Tech with a 2.83 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage.
